Lucy Scott, Business Manager of CQC Outstanding Care company, Enviva Care, has set up a new dementia support group, the EnViva Dementia Support Forum, for relatives and friends of people who have been diagnosed with dementia. These are free evenings of help and advice from Lucy on some of the challenges dementia can bring and how to manage these.
This friendly, informal group is open to all with full refreshments provided. The first session is taking place:
Date: Thursday 8th August
Venue: Enviva Care, Delta Park, Wilsom Road, Alton, GU34 2RQ
Open to everyone – please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0300 303 3219
Recognising a real need for this, Lucy commented:
“The Enviva team support clients with dementia on a daily basis and we know just how physically and emotionally difficult it can be supporting a loved one affected by the disease.
I would really like to share my professional knowledge with those in the local community and provide helpful advice on some of the challenges dementia can bring and how to manage these. We’d also like to remove the stigma surrounding dementia and support Alton to be a truly dementia-friendly town”
There are many different types of dementia affecting around 850,000 people in the UK and can include memory loss, disorientation and confusion as well as difficulties with thinking, problem-solving and language skills. They may also experience difficulty in completing daily tasks and can experience significant changes in behaviour. The Enviva Dementia Support Forum works to provide practical support and advice for those caring for friends or family with the condition while helping them to retain as much control over their lives as possible. The continuity of routine, home environment and one-to-one care and attention from someone providing dementia care can provide profound benefits to quality of life and is a much-preferred option than a care home.
